For many years Tommy Rasmussen (born 1963) has been working as a graphic designer and photographer. It is no coincidence that Tommy Rasmussen found his voice and expression in the sea. The sea is a big part of his life, just as his late father was part of Frømandskorpset (Danish Navy special forces) and lived a life above and below the water – exactly like the photographs are shot.

The lines are tight and graphic, yet the works has a feeling of life and movement, light and depth.
The colors blend together and the lines are blurred to create an aesthetic range of tones.

For many years Tommy Rasmussen (born 1963) has been working as a graphic designer and photographer. In this series of work, he unites the two disciplines for the first time. The result is alluring and difficult to categorize at first glance. What is it that I’m looking at? The lines are tight and graphic, yet the works have a feeling of life and movement, light and depth. The colors blend together and the lines are blurred to create an aesthetic range of tones. The pictures are shot at the intersection of the sky and the sea. The camera captures the sky and sea – above and below – in the same shot. Tommy Rasmussen works digitally with the photographs, allowing the harmonious and soft shapes of the water to meet the structure of the graphic world. In this way, he creates an atmosphere within the lines and a sense of organic movement. The ripples. The sounds. The ocean. You can almost feel it. It is no coincidence that Tommy Rasmussen found his voice and expression in the sea. The sea is a big part of his life, just as his late father was part of Frømandskorpset (Danish Navy special forces) and lived a life above and below the water – exactly like the photographs are shot. The sea has the ability to fascinate us and remind us of our connectedness, both with what has been and what is now. The strength of the sea has always moved us as human beings and as the works show its inherent power always comes through – even when one may not recognize the sea at first sight.

The making of … It all begins with an idea, enjoy.
